Five Items You Need to Have in Your Child's School Survival Kit for Braces

If your child has recently started wearing braces, you’ll want to make sure they have some type of braces survival kit for going back to school. Braces are a great way to straighten teeth and improve a smile, but they do require a certain amount of care and diligence.

Be sure to ask your child’s orthodontist which items your kid should have with them at all times, whether at school or at home. The following items are commonplace in a braces survival kit and came come in quite handy and even help out in a sticky situation.

  • Orthopick Flossers – No matter which brand you prefer, look for orthopicks made for braces. These are easy to use and quickly slide between teeth and brace wires.
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste – You can pack a travel toothbrush or disposable toothbrush which can be used on the go. Pair with a small, travel size tube of toothpaste.
  • Orthodontic Wax – This is necessary for braces if they break or are protruding. The wax can cover up sharp edges and help stabilize loose pieces of the bracket or wiring.
  • Compact Mirror – This can be used at a locker if your kids don’t want to or have time to check out their braces in the restroom.
  • Retainer Case – If your child needs to take their retainer out to eat or clean their teeth, they won’t want to just set it down anywhere.

Others Items You May Want to Include:

  • Orthodontic Rubber Bands
  • Water Jet
  • Floss Threader
  • Tissues
  • Travel Size Mouthwash
